Ask local electricians to quote for your project
Tell us where the property is and what you want done. A clear list of sockets, an existing inspection report or a sketch of a charger position can all help a business decide whether it can assist. You can also describe a problem in ordinary language if you do not know the technical name.
Trusted Electricians is a matching service for independent businesses. One free online enquiry can help you receive up to four quotations from local electricians, depending on coverage, the work requested and availability. Four quotations are not guaranteed, and there is no obligation to accept one.
From enquiry to a written quotation
- Enter the property postcode and your contact details, then choose the closest service.
- Explain the job, timing and access. Mention any inspection findings or paperwork requests.
- Suitable electricians may contact you with questions or to arrange an assessment.
- Compare their written scope, price and availability before deciding whether to book.
An initial estimate based on photographs may change after testing or a visit. Ask whether an assessment is chargeable before arranging it. Submitting the form does not book an electrician or commit you to the work.
Indicative UK electrical work prices
These are planning ranges, not guaranteed quotations or measured local averages. The six main service ranges follow this site’s service guide. The scope notes explain why two jobs in the same category may have very different totals.
| Service or task | Guide range | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Small Electrical Works | £80–£500 | Small domestic jobs; circuit suitability still needs checking |
| House Rewiring | £3,500–£9,000 | Full-house guide; partial work is priced to scope |
| Garden Lighting Installation | £400–£2,500 | A modest fixed-lighting scheme; extensive groundworks can add more |
| EICR & Electrical Testing | £120–£350 | Inspection and report; remedial work priced separately |
| Electrical Surveys & Certificates | £90–£450 | Professional assistance or survey; duplicate fees can be much lower |
| EV Charger Installation | £800–£1,600 | Typical home chargepoint package; supply upgrades may be extra |
| Additional double socket | £90–£200 | Accessible existing circuit; chasing or upgrades may add cost |
| Replace a standard light fitting | £80–£150 | Straightforward replacement; decorative fitting cost may be extra |
| Consumer unit replacement | £500–£1,200 | Subject to circuit condition, protection and notification requirements |
Figures are indicative consumer budgeting allowances, with VAT where applicable; confirm the VAT treatment and total payable with each business. Prices vary by area, specification and condition. Decorative fittings, major repairs, network upgrades, authority fees and extensive making good can fall outside these ranges.
Published installer price examples and garden lighting cost examples provide context for these allowances. They are examples of priced scopes, rather than a tariff for every home. Recovering a duplicate certificate can cost far less than the £90–£450 allowance for professional survey and certificate assistance.
What changes the final price?
Count the sockets, lights and circuits rather than relying on bedroom count alone. Cable routes through solid floors or fitted kitchens, long garden runs, an occupied property and limited parking can add labour. Existing earthing, bonding or protective devices may need attention before a new circuit can be connected.
For an EICR, ask how many circuits and consumer units the fee covers. For a charger, check cable length, equipment model and supply work. For rewiring, agree plaster repairs and decoration. Set a limit for diagnostic work so extra time is discussed before costs grow.
Information worth including
- Small Electrical Works
- Extra sockets, lighting changes, fan wiring, cooker connections and diagnosis of recurring faults.
- House Rewiring
- Full or partial circuit replacement, first and second fix, consumer unit work and final testing.
- Garden Lighting Installation
- Path and deck lights, exterior controls, outdoor sockets and assessed supplies to outbuildings.

Photographs are useful if you can take them from a safe position. Do not remove consumer unit covers, open sockets or touch sealed supply equipment. Include known access restrictions and anything that cannot tolerate a power interruption.
Choose a business and agree the paperwork
Companies joining the network are asked to provide relevant insurance details and references. Before booking, check current insurance, relevant experience and registration for the work yourself. Electrical Safety First’s electrician register can help you check a business’s listed scope. A listing or introduction does not replace agreeing a written specification with your chosen electrician.
Ask who will inspect and test the work, which electrical certificate is included and who handles any building-control notification. Approved Document P for England explains England’s notification rules. Wales has its own Part P guidance; Scotland and Northern Ireland have different building standards arrangements. The job and its location determine the route, so agree it before work begins.
If you notice scorching, a burning smell, electric shocks or exposed wiring, keep away from the affected equipment and seek urgent professional help. Do not remove covers or repeatedly reset a tripping circuit. This quote form is for enquiries and is not an emergency response service.
